Description
Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is a glycoprotein secreted by the developing placenta soon after egg fertilization. hCG can be detected in the urine (also in the blood or serum) as early as 5 – 15 days after the onset of pregnancy. The hCG level in the urine is mainly 100 mIU/ml in the first missed menstrual period and reaches 100,000 to 200,000 mIU/ml levels in the first 3 months. The fact that hCG is seen in both urine and serum immediately after fertilization and increases rapidly in the early stages of pregnancy makes this hormone a safe and good detection material for early diagnosis of pregnancy. The purpose of this test is to detect early development of beta hCG ranging from 5 to 50 mIU/ml.
